Question on Furler bracket
Steve K Today at 2:25 pm

Greeting,
I have a Cascade 42 hull #55. My boat is equiped with a "behind the mast" Mainsail furler. I am trying to remove the bottom braket that attaches the stay to the cabintop. In addition to other bolts, It has one large screw 3/4 to 1" head in the center of the bracket. I have been unable to remove it , penetrating oil and impact driver ( hand held) have failed. Does anyone know what this is attached to? It looks like it might be screwed into the mast step. Is it attached to something under the cabintop? Any harm in drilling it out?

If anyone out there is familiar with this setup, any info will be welcomed.
Thanks Steve K

Hello again,
To answer my own question. The screw does attach the braket to the maststep. I was able to break it loose, finally.

I didn't get a chance to check in till today. Russ is hopping between several projects lately and I didn't even make it home to him this weekend. If you have any more trouble with that furler e-mail Russ at Russell @ cascade yacht works dot com, and copy me at kristen at cascade yacht works dot com. I'll get his attention when I hear from him and let him know someone's needing looking for a hint. Pictures are always helpful.

We have a Cal 46 motorsailer in the family with an externally furled main, might be a somewhat similar setup.

Best wishes,

Kristen Mead
